Executive Summary
During my fifth semester in graduate school in the Spring of 2020, I had the opportunity develop a tool that could be used at my current job. As a corporate trainer, I needed to develop a tool that allowed me to evaluate not just myself but other trainers as well. The final project in my Curriculum & Instruction Models and Implementation class was to develop an observation tool. The basis for the observation instrument was adapted from the Danielson Framework. The trainer is evaluated on the following domains: Planning and Preparation, Corporate Strategy, Instruction, and Education. Education doesn’t stop with formal institutions, whether it be K-12 or higher education. Therefore, if education continues, the evaluation of those presenting the education materials must continue as well. In the end, I was happy with the result and look forward to having the opportunity to implement it in my current role.
Personal Reflection
This was a tough assignment for me. Part of the final project was to evaluate a teacher. I was very skeptical about my ability to do this as I am not now nor ever have been a teacher. I compared this to me going into NASA and trying to tell flight control how they should be doing their job. Then I was told I could do it from a corporate training perspective and that helped greatly. This project helped me dig into the Danielson Framework and really evaluate all the different domains and how/if they would be applicable in a corporate setting. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, I wasn’t able to field test my observation tool, but I’m really looking forward to when I can.
